No Home Button In The Forthcoming IPhone?

Apple's iPhone lineup is distinguished by its home button. However, this also means that the bottom bezel is significantly bigger to accommodate for the button.
But a new report from an industry source suggests that Apple might be looking to ditch this altogether, in order to save space on the device.
This comes in line with an earlier report which hinted at the same, so it seems like this could be a real project from Apple. It is said that the Touch ID sensor has created some trouble for Apple to bring this idea to fruition, as it will have to be replaced elsewhere.
Perhaps Apple can follow in the footsteps of some other companies who have implemented the sensor on the back of the smartphone. But then again, that would go against Apple's design principles, so we're not sure if the company will be willing to do that, although stranger things have happened in the tech industry.
It has been said that Apple is working on a technology which will allow them to implement this sensor right within the display, which could be interesting to see.
The idea might not come to fruition until 2017 as this is deemed a long term goal from the company. But it's good to know that Apple has considered ditching the home button of the iPhone altogether in order to reduce the size of the device.
